Live Broadcaster wanted – Periscope, Meerkat, Google Hangout on Air, Youtube, Ustream, Bambuser, Twitch

September 28, 2015

I am into live broadcasting and would like to meet like minded broadcasters. My dream is to cover a live event through the lenses of other live broadcasters.

For a test I would like to suggest some upcoming major sport events by respecting the legal framework but add flavour to the live experience. As an example I would see the live coverage of fans gathering in order to follow the event together in a sports bar or other settings. There are many major events coming up again, so would like to meet people who would like to join this pilot.

But this all up for discussion and if successful real project could follow.

Coming soon my findings on “How to Monetize Your Periscope Stream”

How to join with Skype in a Google Hangout Gtalk Video Chat ? How to invite people in a Google Hangout without a Google account ?

October 13, 2013

Not everyone is on Google and many use Skype. There is a way to combine Skype and Google hangout and even use other gtalk video chat tools to include people in a google hangout meeting. On top of it I am looking for ways to go beyond just the 10 maximum participant who can join a Google Hangout gtalk video meeting at the same time. I want to find ways for a DIY MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) or DIY Massive Open Online Meetings and Workshops with the lowest costs possible.

If you are a skype user without a google account you will need someone to setup a PC as below in order to dial in.

1. Download and Install Virtual Audio Cable Trial Version:

2. Download and Install manycam:

3. Download and Install Webcammax :

5. Open the Virtual Audio Cable Control Panel and create two cables in Driver Parameters upper left corner of the Panel. Then select Set. As this is the trial version and you do not have administrator rights you need to restart your computer. After the restart open Virtual Audio Cable Control Panel and it will show two lines.

6. Start Google Hangout:

7. Open Skype

8. Start Audio Repeater from Virtual Audio Cable Program Menu. Select vor Wave In your Microphone  and for Wave Out Line 1 in the drop down menu.

9. Click start in the Audio Repeater program.

10. Go to Skype, open Options under Task menu. Select Audio options and select Line 2 in the drop down menu for your speaker. Save.

11. Now Select Calls in Skype Options and select automatically accept incoming calls and also accept and save.

12. Go to Google Handout. Open Settings. Select LIne 2 for your Microphone and Select Webcammax for your webcam.

13. Open Manycam. Select in Sources Tab the item Desktop. Select on the right the icon for customize selected area. Then put this customize capture area over the location of google hangout, where the hangout video will be displayed.

14. Go to Skype and again go to Task and Options. Select Video options and enter as your video source Manycam.

15. Open Webcammax and select there the capture icon on right pane third icon from the top. Select there in the drop down menu selected area and put this area over your skype window where the video will appear.

The main principle is: Webcammax will show your Skype Video Area in the Google Hangout and Manycam will show your Google Hangout Video Area on Skype.
The consequence of this is that you as the host of the Google hangout finally will not be seen in the hangout via your webcam. You need to connect via another computer and webcam to your Google hangout or use Skype via another device such as an iPhone to call the Skype account on your PC in order to be visible in the Google Hangout.

Please note the link to which is mentioned in the youtube video remarks below is not working or will direct you to some strange Advertisements. Better don’t use it.

This is the best source – will explain in detail how to setup a Google Hangout with Skype: Combine Skype and Google Hangout

How to use manycam:

In order to include and connect several Google Hangouts you would need to setup several PCs the same way. Via Skype you would call the next Computer, etc. In this setup Skype will be the bridge between several hangouts. The intriguing part is that you could have a large group of people which receive all at the same time an opening message via Video in the different hangouts. Later they could use these different hangouts as Break-out Session by shutting down the Skype connection….

Best Youtube Videos for childrens to learn from ?!

June 8, 2010

There are so many excellent videos for learning on youtube. It is difficult though to make the selection all by myself. Therefore I invite you to enter your favourite youtube videos in the comment section below this post.
Below are some suggestions.

With our new ipad we spend half hour on the week-ends with our two children age 3 and 7 watching educational videos that fit to our conversations. They are interested in the cosmos and solar sytem, volcanos, rockets, cars, ….

I found an excellent video of a rocket flying into space. The video camera is outside of the rocket filming the whole journey from earth into space.

There is the ABC Song

The eruption of a volcano

Why papa was delayed on his last flight due to the eruption of a volcano in iceland

February 1, 2010

I get seldom exited about new technology, but when I do I do.

I just watched this video on YouTube:

Looking at the ease of use, the size of the device and the way people work with it I just see a quantum leap in man machine communication happening which will alter the way we do things in the future, the way we work and learn.

Crowdsourcing in Human Resources

January 23, 2009

Crowdsourcing in Human Resources is my main research topic in 2009. Cash is king and so is the cashflow in most of the companies. There is no surprise if budgets are reduced for most of the binsess functions.
So how can one leverage what it is available to still implement most of the programs envisoned and needed ?
But first of all what is crowdsourcing and how does it work and what are the boundaries ?

In Wikipedia crowdsourcing is definded as “a neologism for the act of taking a task traditionally performed by an employee or contractor, and outsourcing it to an undefined, generally large group of people or community in the form of an open call. ”
Real life examples of crowdsourcing are:
1) P&G involved an open network of scientist to find a technology to print picture on Pringles potato Chips.
2) O’Reilly Media iengaged volunteers to report on how their books were displayed on the shelves in bookstores.
There are plenty of real life examples here:
The New Human Resource
Wikipedia: Crowdsourcing
50+ crowdsourcing projects

Above these are business examples, but how could the Human Resources Function use crowdsourcing ?

A) The first item that comes to my mind is learning:
I have one word for you: youtube.
1) Stress Management presentation is an example. Google academy invites known experts and publishes the event on youtube.
Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn is the founder of the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center and developed a scientific sound Stress Management program.
Click here to watch the video
2) My personal experience: My son loves the so called brick or lego films on youtube. Lego is known to children for its plastic building blocks. We wanted to make our own lego film and turned to Youtube for advise. It was a video created by a nine year old who was of tremendous help to us – unfortunately I did not keep the link.

Remark: The company needs to allow their employees the access to Youtube. This is still not the case for all companies.

In Youtube usually the work has already been done. It is just a matter of finding it. But one could think of inviting the crowd for example the Human Resources Learning & Development crowd to jointly identify useful free learning resources on the interent to a specific topic such as stress management, interview skills, etc….
Existing projects and groups:
WikiEducator is a community project working collaboratively with the Free Culture Movement towards a free version of the education curriculum by 2015.
Connecting Online C009: Sharing personal and professional online learning experiences. This is group of 465 members on the ning plattform.

Richard Baraniuk on opensource learning:

Connexions is:

a place to view and share educational material made of small knowledge chunks called modules that can be organized as courses, books, reports, etc. Anyone may view or contribute:

B) Crowdsourcing will be a new dimension to Talent Management.
You have talents that you do not employ but that participate in your business processes.
The Routledge Companion to Strategic Human Resource Management describes this new dimension.

C) Workforce: Talent aquisition
Don Tapscott the best selling author of Wikinomics: How Mass Collaboration Changes Everything lectures on The Future of Staffing is Crowdsourcing

D) Workforce: Talent Assessment and Talent Pool and EmployabilityPotential talents could be identified through crowdsourcing projects for example in Commercial, Marketing, Public Affairs or Research & Development .
In Commercial future talents could be invited to develop a business plan for a new technology, market, etc.
In Public Affairs future talents could work on new campaigns for one of the businesses such as using Web 2.0 channels and tools.
In Research & Development future talents could work on new key challenges and develop new solutions.
There are a lot of opportunities to engage future talents and thus build a talent pool.
There are numerous benefits for the talents as well. The main benefit besides a potential job is experience.
In the early 1990s crisis I was representing the Fraunhofer Institute at an education and career fair in Germany. Number of students approached us with their CVs. Of these students who had their diplomas in hand there were a few who had not found a job even two years after graduation. And in these two years some of them had basically not collected any experience be it as an evening class teacher at a local night school or any other job related experiences. Would you hire a person that has two years of missing experiences in his or her CV ? My point here is that these crowdsourcing project would help to increase the employability of participants especially in a recession. With the internet this has become so easy now and shows that the internet is more than a large computer it is a society within the society and opens us to a whole new world to collect needed experiences.

If you have other crowdsourcing examples to share which would benefit the Human Resources Function please do not hesitate to write a comment or join me on the HRcrowdsourcing comunity.

I will continuously update this post with new examples as I go along on my research journey on crowdsourcing in 2009.
